How about a day of dance workshops.
And a night of live music, performances, and socializing.

It’s been 2 years
With the simple idea of promoting awareness on depression, and providing social support, CandleX was founded on April 1st 2015 (I know, we are founded on the April Fool’s Day!). Since then, people have found support at our mental health workshops, peer support groups, community campaign projects, and through information in our online classrooms and columns. We have shared our knowledge on depression and bi-polar disorder with embassies, schools, communities, and on media. For a new NGO, especially with staff all doing it part time, we’ve done a lot!

Time to celebrate
Here’s something you don’t know about CandleX! Behind all the depression talks, workshops, and events, we are a team of people with good sense of humor, diverse talents, and fun driven energy. So instead of a traditional celebration with speeches, medals, and sitting tables, we are going to make it FUN!
To mark this two-year anniversary, we are throwing a PARTY at night, and Dance Workshops during the afternoon. You are invited to join us. Meet the CandleX’s crew! It will be a night of fun and celebration.

CandleX’s 2 Year Anniversary Party
Modernista will open its doors at 8 pm. Swing Beijing will get us warmed up with open dancing and a swinging performance. (little birdy whispers: Come early for the performance and find out who will be performing from CandleX crew!) For the early bird raffle ticket buyers, there will be a chance to win the first prizes . And as you can hopefully judge from the businesses that are so kind to sponsor there are some great prizes to be won (check out our poster to see who are sponsoring)! We will continue the evening with two of Beijing’s best bands: Tavey Lean and the solid gold dream machine, and Paper tigers. From then on out it's more fun, music, prizes and celebration. While you can also learn more about CandleX and the work we do and are planning to do for the coming year.

All of the proceeds will go towards more mental health projects in Beijing

Afternoon Dance workshops
To add to the fun start your holiday weekend with our afternoon dance workshops ,sneak out of work a little early and join one, two or all of our workshops, kindly offered by Beijing Contact Improv Group, Inko di Ö belly dance and Swing Beijing.

4 pm doors open.
4.30 pm start: Contact improv dance (CI). This workshop is for all levels, especially beginners. CI is the open-ended exploration of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is form open to dancers of all backgrounds and abilities. In this class, we will explore how to pay attention to our breath and natural movement, before learning how to engage with others in dance. We will start with simple contact points of the fingers, hands and arms, before moving into more possibilities. Loose and comfortable clothing recommended. 5.45 pm start: American Tribal Style (ATS) bellydance discovery workshop. Tribal bellydance is a very modern combination of very ancient dance forms as Oriental, Flamenco and Indian dance. Showing how to move with a new sense of mystery, elegance and sensuality, this unusual fusion explores another face of femininity and reconnects the dancers between themselves! 7 pm start: Swing dance workshop. Swing dance is the combination of various kinds of social and solo dance during Jazz-era. It is popular now all over the world. People usually dance with big band music, following the distinctive music rhythm. The melody of music for this dance style is often fast and cheerful. And it is easy to feel the happy atmosphere while you are dancing. In this workshop, we are focusing on one of the dances called Lindy hop. We will learn some basic and also classic moves, which can be used in social dance. By Swing Beijing.
